astronomically speaking, is a celestial entity that absorbs all energy incident upon it and radiates energy in ways unique unto itself.
The energy a black body absorbs is transmuted into the energy it emits. Black bodies, such as stars, emit energy, such as light, in amounts that increase with increasing temperature: hotter black bodies burn brighter.
While a black body radiates light continuously across all wavelengths, there is a peak in this spectrum, a wavelength at which it burns brightest.
Technically, a black body is a theoretical object, but when I first learned about the concept, I immediately understood it in terms of the realities and survival of
Black human bodies.
I believe the convergence of science, spirituality, and sociology (e.g. Dr. Barbara A. Holmes’ Race and the Cosmos: An Invitation to view the world differently and others) offers vast potential for Black healing and liberation.
